Overview of the Austin Fall/Spring Cohort 2010-11

This Cohort is designed for candidates who would like to allow more time to network, gain experience and begin their teaching career.

The goal of this Cohort is for teacher candidates to secure a teaching position and earn a full salary with benefits for the school year beginning in August 2011.

For candidates who do not secure a Paid Internship with a school or school district, they will be placed in a 12-week Clinical Teaching position to earn their Standard Certificate.

Program Orientation: Monday, August 30, 2010 from 6 pm to 7:30 pm

PPR Coursework: September to December 2010
Classes are held one night a week from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with outside projects, study sessions and independent work.

Observation in Public Schools: September 2010 to May 2011
During the Fall and Spring semester, teacher candidates will participate in 100 hours of hands-on classroom experience in a school with a certified classroom teacher. This component of our program is designed to give our candidates classroom experience as well as build their teaching portfolio.

TExES PPR Exam: December 2010

Content Coursework: January to May 2011
Classes are held one night a week from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with outside projects, study sessions and independent work.

*There will be no classes the week of March 14th-18th for Spring Break.
**Special Education teacher candidates will attend their content class Monday nights as well as a Special Education class. These class dates will be held on Wednesday night from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm on March 23, 30, April 6, 13 and 20.

Internship Year begins: Aug 2011
Interns are hired as full-time teachers and work under the supervision of e2. They earn a first year teacher salary as well as receive full benefits with their employing school/school district.

Intern Seminars: Oct 13, 2011, Nov 10, 2011, Feb 9, 2012 and Apr 12, 2012
Meetings are held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Attendance is required.

Clinical Teaching: Fall 2011 OR Spring 2012
For teacher candidates who have not secured an internship. They will be placed in a classroom with a certified teacher and teach for 12 weeks, full-time to earn their Standard Certificate.

Payments can be made online
If you will be applying for financial aid, all items must be completed prior to the first day of class.

*Includes labs and materials. Students use their own graphing calculators in the Math Course.
**Payment Options for One-Year Paid Internship:
1) Payment in Full: due September 1, 2011
OR
2) Pay As You Go Plan: The payments will be broken down into equal installments and can be drafted from your paycheck over a 10-month period.

Additional fees (also subject to change) paid to other agencies include:
$42.25 – SBEC Fingerprinting/ Criminal History Fee
$9.95 – Fingerprinting Service Fee
$120.00 – TExES PPR Exam
$120.00 – TExES Content Exam
$52.00 – Probationary Certificate
$77.00 – Standard Teacher Certificate

Fees for private/parochial school teachers will be adjusted for their classroom experience for the One-Year Paid Internship.

Refund Policy
Refunds will be made as follows:
70% Prior to 2nd class meeting
0% after 2nd class meeting
Request for refunds must be made in writing to e2. Refund requests require approximately 30 days to process.
Deposits that are due on the day of the Program Orientation are non-refundable. This deposit reserves your place in the cohort.
